Woman quoted £600 for Ikea pantry spends just £80 on DIY version

A woman who was quoted hundreds of pounds for an Ikea pantry decided to save the money and build it herself.

Natalie Evans, from Bryn, Wales, carried out plenty of research to find the best bargains, and built her own version for just £80.

She added the pantry in the family garage, putting in lots of shelves and a second fridge.

The DIY wiz also added storage bins purchased from Home Bargains and Poundland to organise the space.

Luckily, Natalie had a team of builders who were working on another project, a garage conversion, but agreed to install the shelves to help out.

Natalie shared the details of the transformation, which saved her almost ten times the quoted amount, on a Facebook page.

Followers were impressed with how much she saved and the finished product.

She wrote on Facebook: ‘As part of our recent conversion, we decided to build a walk-in pantry, best decision ever!

‘We got some contiboards from Travis Perkins, brackets from Screwfix and it cost us approximately £80 in materials.’

The pantry storage was bought from Home Bargains while a spice/tin shelf was purchased from Poundland.

‘We had a one hour online planning meeting with IKEA, when we later had the quote through it was nearly £600 (including VAT) so that evening I spent hours online looking at other possibilities,’ Natalie told Femail.

Facebook followers said they had ‘pantry envy’ when they saw the walk-in room.

One person wrote: ‘This is a beautiful sight,’ while another said: ‘Excellent, well done, looks amazing’.

A third added: ‘Come do mine next, please.’
